Are you looking for ways to support Ukraine in times of need? Over the past week, a library of options have popped up locally and internationally. From donating your bottles and cans with SkipTheDepot to supporting businesses who donate a part of their proceeds, there are quite a few options to choose from to demonstrate your support. Here are 6 easy ways that you can help out!
- SkipTheDepot
Short on cash? Book a pickup using the SkipTheDepot app and donate the proceeds of your bottles and cans. Booking a recycling pickup is easier than ever with the ability to do it all from the comfort of your own home! Donate in three easy steps:
Download & Sign Up
Download the app using the App Store, Google Play, on the website. Whether you are booking a pickup for a commercial establishment, condo, or residential location, SkipTheDepot has you covered.
Book a Pickup
Enter your address, pick a day you want our driver to collect your bags, include your pickup instructions, indicate how many bags of recycling you have, and set your donation preferences to “Red Cross - Bottles for Ukraine.” Not tech-savvy? Use this link to automatically set your donation preference when you sign up: https://app.skipthedepot.com/ukraine.
Donate
After the driver has collected and counted your recycling, we send you a breakdown of everything counted and donated.
- Red Cross
The Canadian government is stepping in and has promised that it will match donations that individuals make to the Canadian Red Cross, which will bring humanitarian relief to Ukraine. Until March 18th, donations will be matched up to $10 million.
The donations to the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal can also be made on the Canadian Red Cross website or by calling 1-800-418-1111.
- Canada-Ukraine Foundation
The Canada-Ukraine Foundation has created a GoFundMe and donation portal to provide humanitarian assistance to those who need it in Ukraine.
- Confetti Sweets
In Sherwood Park, Confetti Sweets is now selling cookies in six packs of blue and yellow for $10 with all the proceeds going to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation.
- Yo Baba!
Yo Baba’s specialty is Ukrainian food and has launched a #borschtforukraine campaign with all of the borscht sales going to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation.
- Red Sparrow Gallery
Lorraine Shulba at Edmonton’s Red Sparrow Gallery is donating half of the money she collects from her custom sunflower prints to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, the sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine.
